Tips to Help Prevent Tooth Decay

  • Brush twice daily, especially before bedtime.
  • Set a timer for 2 minutes each time you brush and don't stop until the timer goes off.
  • During the day, when you can't brush, chew a piece of sugarless gum for 5 minutes.
  • Clean between your teeth by flossing once daily.
  • Nothing to eat or drink 1 hour before bedtime.
  • Avoid sipping and snacking on sugary foods and drinks.


What to do in case of a Dental Emergency

Knocked out a baby tooth:
  • See your dentist as soon as possible.
  • Do not try to place tooth back into the socket, damage to the permanent tooth could occur.

Give your child his/her normal pain reliever (not aspirin) and contact your dentist as soon as possible.

Bitten tongue or lip:
Gently clean area, and then wrap ice in cloth and place on injury to keep swelling down.

Broken Tooth:
  • Rinse with warm, salt water to clean area.
  • See your dentist as soon as possible.
  • Pain reliever of choice if necessary.
